Animal Rights One might argue that the implementation of the full range of animal rights can never occur under a money-and-profit-based system. Consider the large-scale unemployment that would follow a wholesale societal shut-down of all or even most animal-based industry, including those revolving around meat and garment processing, production, and sales. A capitalist economy would find it difficult to absorb such massive job loss. Only a cooperative society, since it does not tie survival and prosperity to "employment," could readily and painlessly tolerate such a substantial dislocation. Of course, this discussion begs the question of whether such measures should be taken, in the first place. |
